Something Interesting

Some people argue that democracy is not appropriate to the sensibilities of the people in Pakistan. Some others fall out that education and economic development are the foundations for the establishment of a democratic polity. Still some others refuse democracy as simply a Western idea which has no position within an Islamic society. Irrespective of the power of these sights, one needs to explore the essence of democracy for a country like Pakistan.

According to Robert Dael in the book: “Democracy and Human Right under Different Conditions of Development” (pp. 166-80). He argues that,
A democratic country is one that ensures certain political rights and liberties in a realistic sense and at a comparatively high level. These rights and liberties are necessary to the functioning of the institutions that, taken as a whole, distinguish modern democracy from other kinds of political orders.

Can You Critically Think about this?

This is one of the videos form the website wikileaks.

after watching this video, whom would you critically side with? i have been thinking about what is happening to these people in Iraq and then i think about the fear and anger that is building up in the minds of the people whom are committing all these atrocities. look at the video and think whom with you side with? the casual attitude of the shooters in this video might change your way of thinking and personal bias would step in being a Muslim but think what ever is happening to us, are we responsible for all this?

Your critical Reflection of this Video...

Stress and critical thinking.

This season's exams left me wondering about the relationship between stress and critical thinking. At crunch time,  when your a bit of a procrastinator, like myself, things are bound to get hectic; when multiple exams presentations, papers and assignments are in the equation, and time is very limited, a lot of anxiety builds us, sometimes turning to feelings of helplessness; in this situation, thinking critically is difficult, because you feel bogged down by the limited time and the immense work load. I think this is very relevant, seeing as we all face this, as college students. Are there any guidelines as such regarding thinking critically under pressure?
I make this post amidst concerns that contributions after November 28, 2010  9:23:06 PM would fail to exhibit critical thinking. The power of a statement will have people flocking to this blog, compelling them to contribute and their contributions will make no sense and will be seen as a desperate attempt to gain marks. Well, maybe I want the grading system to reward me- So, here I go..
How do you make critical thinking a part of the formal school curriculum? And if that is done, is there any evidence to support that students will be able to apply critical thinking outside of the curriculum? or should critical thinking be embedded in the hidden curriculum? If so, how do you deal with problems like how do you structure assignments that promote critical thinking? Is critical thinking something that can be tested and rewarded? how can you assess a student's ability to critically thinking?

Curiosity and Critical thinking

How does critical thinking fit in with curiosity? is it possible to apply the elements of critical thinking to it?

Critical thinking experience...

Finally, we are done with this course and semester. I want to reflect on the course and my experience with you (Instructor), I had very high expectations from the first day, I chose that course because I thought it would help me in dealing the personal problems. I am aware of the fact that we did not had the ideal class as Critical Thinking requires, we were short of time and the number of students in class was higher too.

But yet, This course has helped me in terms of reflecting my thoughts, the first step to become a critical thinker, At least I can define myself in better way, In more concrete expression and I think theoretically all of us are applying critical thinking techniques to resolve our problems we just have to discover that channel.

CT gave me some of the new perspective to look at my own life and my personality as whole, When you (Instructor) asked my expectation about the course, I said 'Self-discovery', I was aware of the face that it is not something easy to obtain, there exists other genres of thinking, I might not get into the track by doing just one basic course, So at least I have discovered a new way of looking at thinks, linking it, resolving it and this clearly had impact on my life in terms of resolving the problems of my life.

Thank you for being such a friendly instructor, This is how the CT instructor has to be, It was pleasure to be your student, will be seeking the guidance from you.
