How do we understand concepts through abstraction and reflection? Can you please state an example to help me understand how I can apply this?

Can you also explain what are assumptions?

  1. reflection can be a challenging endeavor. It's not something that's fostered in school typically someone else tells you how you're doing! At best, students can narrate what they did, but have trouble thinking abstractly about their learning - patterns, connections and progress. Likewise teachers and principals need encouragement and opportunities to think more reflectively about their craft.

  2. Abstractions are 'un-checked' reflections at least for me, Abstractions exists in the undiscovered zone of our mind, the ambiguous and confusing things which are not yet 'defined' in our thought process are abstractions.

Reflections are 'known abstractions', When we identify and recognize our thoughts and label them with 'such and such' purpose and function.

Assumptions are like storage devices, something that is saved in our memory, like the red-light traffic signals means to 'stop', it has to do with cognitive Psychology I guess.

Please any approve/disapprove my thoughts about the question.

  3. I think that assumptions are things that we take for granted. They are thoughts or conclusions that we reach about a particular situation that we start applying unthinkingly whenever that or a similar situation occurs, without checking their validity, relevance or accuracy.
Reflections are our feelings or thoughts about something. They are our ideas or opinion about something.
I am unclear about the term abstractions myself. Hope someone will clarify.
