Critical Thinking And Ethics!

Ethics play a big role in critical thinking and decision-making. Ethics are what enable you to decide or do something good or how to cause the least harm. When talking about critical thinking and ethics, a few questions arise. The questions that come into the mind are: Firstly, what do ethics mean to you?
Secondly, what are some of the tools of critical thinking for ethics? Have you ever used them? Thirdly, what are some different beliefs about ethical living.  Which ones do you tend to agree with more? Is it hard to live ethically? Fourthly, what role do reason, emotion, and intuition play when making ethical decisions? Have you experienced these, and have you ever felt a conflict between the three? For example, a person can be skillful at developing arguments and then, unethically, use this skill to mislead and exploit a naive person, pull off a fraud, or deliberately confuse and confound, and frustrate a project. An example of ethics with the way of our thinking, illustrates that a person can be good at critical thinking and be and be proficient at the cognitive processes, while still not being a good critical thinker.
From the above-mentioned questions, what do we analyze, that do these questions, require ethical reasoning? If ethical reasoning is required, then how can the tools of critical thinking enhance our ethical reasoning? What is thus required is an appropriate tool, or an approach for our way of thinking.

  1. Critical thinking: is a form of judgment, specifically purposeful and reflective judgment.
I believe that ethics is a major branch of philosophy, encompassing right conduct and good life. It is significantly broader than the common conception of analyzing right and wrong. Ethics and morals are respectively akin to theory and practice. Ethics denote the theory of right action and the greater good, while morals indicate their practice. Ethics are in essence a set of choices we make toward how we live our life.
    Hence ethical reasoning is required.

  2. According to me Ethics have no role in critical thinking as critical thinking is often used for unethical matters such as proving guilty innocent in courts as lawyers also do critical thinking when they study a cases so in the real world ethics are often not considered by
    critical thinkers.

  3. Critical thinking and ethics are the basis of any decisions that we make on a day to day basis, in considering how major decisions effect the people we work around and the lives we lead. There is no way that we can have one set of ethics for home and another set for business, we must have a clear objective of the critical thinking for each phase of life and they must be thought out ethically and morally.

  4. when critical thinking is not negative it has some elements of ethics involved. i dont think so it will be appropriate to say critical thinking is not ethical. critical thinking and ethics are the basics of the decisions you make.

  5. I do not agree with owais, I think that ethics play a major role in helping us to think critically. Also critical thinking is not just used in unethical matters, but it is a tool that should be used at all times in order to come to a resonable conclusion.

  7. Ethics play a very important part in the critical thinking process. By having ethics, you can decide what is good or bad and proceed to find the most rational solution to a problem. Ethics help us stay in line according to our values.
