Can we hope to be rational when it comes to feelings?

Critical thinking trains us to think rationally and to ask the right questions that would help us reach solutions. I cant help but wonder can we hope to be find the same level of success in  when it comes to situations that mostly revolve our feelings like deciding what is best the best thing to do when ups and downs come in our relationship with our loved ones etc. After all feelings are known to be irrational and sometimes beyond the bounds of reason. Am I right in saying this? Can we really hope to reach rational conclusions with the help of critical thinking when it comes to situations that are linked to our feelings and those of others?

  1. i believe a person can be rational when it comes to feelings, but then whatever conclusion one reaches when he/she is in an emotional mood, then the critical thinking gets affected to some extent, but the person usually gets towards making a rational decsion after a while, when the emotional feelings fade away a little.

  2. i believe at times feelings can help critical thinking. let me explain it through an example. It is natural for people to experience anxiety and fear when they start questioning or challenging their own and others' beliefs. For example, people may be disappointed to see a program about the special effects used to make something look real, and may resist believing the information. However, that feeling of disappointment could trigger an important critical thinking episode, which could lead to an understanding of the difference between reality and fantasy in television. The feeling of disappointment must be acknowledged before it can lead to new learning.

  3. My friend I don’t agree with the ladies who say we CAN think rationally when it comes to feelings, this maybe because I yet haven’t been able to find out what EXACTLY rational thinking is, but as far as I’ve got a grip of it, it requires making decisions apart from your heart but more from your mind with the help of logic. If you separate your mind and your heart where all the feeling are (not speaking literally ofcourse all feeling are produced in the mind) then your emotions are taken over by logic hence making you unable to be rational when it comes to feelings.

If anyone thinks otherwise please explain.
