Stress and critical thinking.

This season's exams left me wondering about the relationship between stress and critical thinking. At crunch time,  when your a bit of a procrastinator, like myself, things are bound to get hectic; when multiple exams presentations, papers and assignments are in the equation, and time is very limited, a lot of anxiety builds us, sometimes turning to feelings of helplessness; in this situation, thinking critically is difficult, because you feel bogged down by the limited time and the immense work load. I think this is very relevant, seeing as we all face this, as college students. Are there any guidelines as such regarding thinking critically under pressure?

  1. nice to see that you can psycho-dynamically make connection between the real world and your emotions. well the link that is to be understood here is academic performance and academic stress. it happens with all the course that due to the work load and limited time we all feel stressed out, but thinking or the process of thinking never comes to a pause as mind is always working under stress or without stress. though yes it is scientifically proven that, Yes Academic stress has effect on academic performance.

  4. "Critical" as used in the phrase "critical thinking" connotes the significance or centrality of the thinking to a subject, question or problem of concern. "Critical" in this context does not mean disapproval. There are many optimistic and useful uses of critical thinking, for example formulating a practical solution to a complex personal problem, deliberating as a group about what course of action to take, or analyzing the assumptions and the quality of the methods used in scientifically arriving at a reasonable level of confidence about a given hypothesis. Using strong critical thinking we might evaluate an argument, for example, as worthy of acceptance because it is valid and based on true premises..

  5. Peace is a word which has surely lost its meaning in present time. Before heading to the no peaceful society of today first let’s see what does peace actually mean? Peace means calmness living with harmony and love. It also means no use of weapons no loss of human blood or any fights. Peace is a process if one struggle ends another starts. In history peace was defined as the rules and regulations made by the ruler where common people has no say and they just had to accept whatever is set buy the ruler. Then the time evolved and definition of peace altered when people got a chance to choose their ruler. Peace is never absolute it varies and changes that’s why in contemporary world peace is defined where people are politically active when they can protest against wrong and are fearless to voice their thoughts. If we go with above stated definition we can surely say that today we are living in a peaceful world where people as compared to old times are not being suppressed media highlights all the evils of society without hesitation and etc but the question then waggle in my mind is having atomic powers having monopoly of developed countries over undeveloped countries and using and exploiting people strikes in my mind are we living in a peaceful society? We need to think over it and analyze ourselves that are we benefiting from this kind of peace prevailing today or we are being the victim? what answer would you draw keeping in mind the notions of critical thinking?

  6. I really do not see any notion of critical thinking being practiced in Pakistan. In history we have had great poets, writers, journalists but we never actually heard of a great critical thinker that our country has ever produced. It’s just because the term critical thinking has never been coined in our country. Although the need and importance of critical is as important as thinking especially in a country like Pakistan where all the proceeding and decisions are randomly taken without comprehending the consequences .if we go like two years back when major wheat crisis smacked our economy not only locally but internationally pushed back our economy, it was all due to wrong decisions and lack of strategic and planned thinking that we had to import wheat on much higher rates, because of a bunch of people thought we have had bumper crop and to earn more foreign exchange and personal profits they should export it. These unplanned decisions blowed our economy so badly that we had to import wheat even after having one of the bumper crops in the history in order to meet local needs. Had there been a notion of critical thinking or thinking of thinking this would not have knocked us and our economy that badly.
